Travel - Angie's Adventures in Thailand

Thailand

Thailand is a great country to visit. It is a beautiful array of colors and culture. Selling helicopters to foreign customers has its perks! (That used to be my job.) I was able to go to Thailand a few times while I worked one of their programs.

The beauty of a twelve-hour time difference is I was able to see many beautiful sunrises. The below is a very expressive Bangkok skyline.

Another expressive morning…

Buddha

Most Thais are Buddhist (94.5%) which is why one will find Buddha everywhere. There are standing Buddhas, reclining Buddhas, sitting Buddhas, Buddhas by the beach, Buddha in the mountains. These Buddhas were in a cave.

People provide offerings to budda:

The Monks

The monks move around the city. As part of their vow of poverty, the townspeople provide them food.

Lob Buri

I loved coming across this little temple area where there were a few statues and a whole lotta monkeys!

Another fascinating thing in Thailand were the temples and their shapes. They were so colorful:

But the food…

My all-time favorite food is Thai. LOVE. IT. Except durian. That’s some nasty stuff. Think old gym socks mixed with rotten anything. It’s nasty. Just nasty. The first time I was exposed to it we were waiting outside a home in the driveway area. I had asked the people we were with "what died?". They chuckled. Nothing died, it was just the durian.

There is some interesting stuff here. See below photos of the wet market. I did not eat any cockroaches, toads, larvae or bugs. Did you see the woman's t-shirt that read "I cooked with Poo and I liked it"? Poo is a chef in Thailand and we took her cooking class. She was amazing. Her school is in the inner "hood" of Bangkok, a very impoverished area. The proceeds from her cooking class have spurred on about 20 other businesses for the locals.
