When I was a Mermaid - March Newsletter 2026
News from the Makerspace Mind of Angela Hatch
Hi!It's been a creative month as I return from a very productive writing retreat by the beach (visited daughter and got to stay in a hotel almost a whole week to write all day uninterrupted - how great is that!).I was at my laptop in the hotel breakfast area when a lady leaned over and said, "my friend and I were wondering....are you a writer?""Well, yes I am!" They got excited when I told them I wrote middle grade. (Her friend was a retired principal; she was the librarian.)While there, I got a glimpse or two of the beach and even took some stunning sunset pics.  Below is one of them. The highlight, of course, is that I completed edits to an upcoming book I will pitch this month at a writing event. You will be pleased to know "MakerSpace Mysteries - Trouble Over Turtle Cove" is pitch-ready!

Fun and Unique Days to Celebrate in March:
Mar 2 – Dr. Suess Day – Celebrate by having green eggs and ham for breakfast! (We did that once for the kids. Their expressions were priceless!)Oddly, Mar 2nd is also Fun Facts About Names Day. If you've read any of my books, facts about names is a weird thing that I write about often. I have no idea why, but now at least I can celebrate it!Mar 4 - National Sons Day - Parents, enjoy some time with your boy, no matter how big or small.Mar 9 – Daylight Savings Time - Daylight savings begins. Move clocks forward one hour and get an extra hour of daylight!  It's also Check Your Batteries Day.Mar 13 - National Earmuff Day - Why, oh why, is this not in Jan!?!Mar 14 - National Pi Day- You know what to do here. Bake (or get) a pie and divide it into infinity servings!Mar 18 - Awkward Moments Day - Well, I thought this one would be....interesting. Celebrate by taking awkward photo shots. Some of these were pretty funny: 73 Awkward Sibling Photoshoot Ideas

But I say it definitely should include ice cream!Mar 20 – Alien Abduction Day – Go stargazing and look for aliens. Or, check out this AMAZING website! It's very cool. Mar – 29 – Mermaid Day – I met a mermaid last year. She even let me borrow her fin for a quick spin! Learning to swim with one fin was WAY more difficult than I thought! The takeaway - it's good to learn hard things (and develop your core muscles at the same time!)

Angie's Amazing Adventures
As you may recall, in my personal/non-writing life, my goal this year is to have one cool adventure every month. February’s Cool Adventure was in my backyard. For Christmas I got a super cool telescope and I am learning how to see the stars and get a glimpse of deep space. Here is my first attempt at a few things in the sky:

I did not get to see any aliens on these night sky adventures, but that's okay. I love seeing what's out there. Isn't the detail on the first image of the moon amazing? The last two are nebulas, Horse head and Monkey head.As we head into the pollen season, keep your tissues handy and enjoy watching nature wake from its winter slumber. Thanks for being part of this storytelling adventure!By the way, March is National Reading Month. Enjoy a book or two...or ten!
